Join Third House to Monitor Legislation

Third House Begins January 16. Activities at the Indiana Statehouse are heating up as the short session gets underway. Keep in touch by participating in Greater Lafayette Commerce’s Third House. Fee for the seven breakfast sessions is $150. Third House meets at Best Western Lafayette Executive Plaza from 7:30 to 9:30 a .m. on Saturdays, January 16, 23, 30, February 13, 20, 27 and March 6.

During each Indiana legislative session, Greater Lafayette Commerce hosts the Third House breakfast sessions, where participants review and comment on pending bills and hear from local legislators on the previous week’s activities at the statehouse.

 

Participants choose a committee to follow legislation by topic, with pending bills and information communicated electronically.

 

Committees include:

 

  • Health, Human Services, Aging Families and Children
  • Agriculture, Small Business, Natural Resources, Transportation, Tourism and Environment
  • Government Affairs, Finance and Taxation and Public Policy
  • Education
  • Corporations, Financial Institutions, Insurance and Labor
  • Courts, Judiciary and Criminal Codes

 State Representatives, Senators Attend

 

Beth Stull is serving as this year’s speaker of Third House. Local representatives and senators usually attend, sharing insights on the previous week’s activities and hearing local concerns.

 

2010 a Short Session

 

The Indiana legislature meets for a short session in 2010. Work must conclude in 30 session days and not extend beyond March 15.
